Who we are
Cromulent Coupons is a coupon and deals website at https://cromulent.coupons. It is run by Coleman Digital LLC, 1501 State St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101, United States. You can reach us through the contact form at https://cromulent.coupons/contact-us/.
How the site makes money
When you click a coupon, a deal or a store link, you leave our site through a link that an affiliate network tracks. If you then buy something from the store, the store pays us a commission. The price you pay is not affected. We also buy advertising on Google and Microsoft search to bring visitors to the site.
This policy explains what we record to make that work, what we tell advertising platforms, and the choices you have.
What we record when you click through to a store
Every click on a coupon, deal or store link is written to a click log on our own server. A row in that log holds:
- a random click id, which we attach to the outgoing link so that the affiliate network can report a later sale back to that click
- your visitor id (see Cookies below)
- which coupon, store and affiliate network you clicked through to, and the address you were sent to
- advertising details carried on your visit, if there were any: the campaign and source named in the link that brought you to the site, and the click id that an advertising platform such as Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising added to that link (for example gclid or msclkid), together with that platform’s campaign and ad group ids
- the time of the click, and whether we think the click came from an automated program rather than a person
- your IP address and your browser’s user agent string
- your account id, if you were signed in
We use the log to match sales to clicks, to see which stores and coupons actually work for visitors, to check the commission that networks report to us, and to spot bots and fraudulent clicks.
We keep the IP address and user agent string for 13 months. A daily job then blanks both fields. The rest of the row stays as a business record of the click and the commission it earned. We keep those remaining fields for as long as we need them for accounting and for checking network reports.
What affiliate networks tell us
We work with these affiliate networks: CJ Affiliate, Awin, Rakuten Advertising, Impact, TradeDoubler, AvantLink and Partnerize, and we may add others. When a sale is reported, we receive the click id we passed, the store name, an order reference, the order amount, the commission and its status. We do not receive your name, address or payment details. A network’s report may list the items in the order; we keep the report as the network sends it.
The networks and the stores run their own tracking once you arrive on their sites, under their own privacy policies.
Cookies and similar technology
Our own cookies:
- visitor_uuid: a random id for your browser. It lasts 13 months and is renewed on every visit. It is the visitor id written to the click log above.
- wpcoupon_params: holds the same visitor id plus any campaign and advertising click details from the link that brought you here, so that a later click can still be credited to that campaign. It lasts 13 months.
- consent cookies set by our consent tool (Complianz), which remember the choices you made for one year. Their names start with cmplz_ and wp_consent_. The Cookie Policy page linked in the footer lists every cookie in use.
- sign-in cookies if you have an account, and comment cookies if you leave a comment. Sign-in cookies last two days, or two weeks if you tick “Remember me”. Comment cookies last one year.
Third-party tags and cookies:
- Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads. We use them to measure how the site is used and to report clicks through to stores as conversions to Google Ads. Google sets its own cookies, such as _ga, _gcl_aw, _gcl_gs and _gcl_ls.
- Microsoft Advertising (Universal Event Tracking), used the same way for Microsoft and Bing advertising. Microsoft sets cookies such as _uetsid, _uetvid and _uetmsclkid.
Rating widget: when you rate a page, we store a one-way hash of your IP address to stop repeat votes. The hash cannot be turned back into the address.
You can see and change your cookie choices at any time through the “Manage consent” link in the footer.
What we tell advertising platforms
When you click through to a store, our site sends an “outbound click” event to Google Ads and to Microsoft Advertising, together with the advertising click id that platform placed on your visit, the store you clicked through to, and an estimate of what that click is worth to us. The platforms use these events to measure their ads and decide how much to bid. The event identifies your browser to the platform; it does not carry your name.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these events are only sent after you accept marketing cookies in the banner. Until then the Google tags run without advertising cookies and send no identifiers.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law, sending these events counts as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can opt out, see Your choices below.
Other information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address and message, which the site sends to us by email. The site itself does not store the message.
- Accounts and coupon submissions: your username, email address and the coupons you submit.
- Comments: the comment and the name, email and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection. A hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to look up a profile picture, and comments may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
Who we share information with
- the affiliate networks and the stores, who receive the click id inside the link you click
- Google, through the tags above
- Microsoft, through its tag
- our hosting provider, WPX, whose servers store the site and its logs and whose mail service delivers contact form messages
We do not sell personal information for money.
Where information is processed
The site is hosted by WPX on servers in the United States and Europe. Google, Microsoft and the affiliate networks process information in the United States and in other countries where they operate. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, these transfers rely on the recipient’s standard contractual clauses or on an adequacy decision.
How long we keep information
- Click log: IP address and user agent for 13 months, then blanked. Remaining fields for as long as we need them for accounting and for checking network reports.
- Our cookies: 13 months from your last visit. Consent cookies: one year.
- Sale reports from networks: for as long as we need them for accounting.
- Accounts: until you delete the account or ask us to.
- Comments: indefinitely, so follow-up comments can be approved automatically.
- Contact form email: in our mailbox until deleted.
Legal basis (European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland)
- Running the site, keeping the click log, matching sales to clicks and detecting fraud: our legitimate interest in being paid for the referrals we make and in keeping that record accurate, and performance of our agreements with the affiliate networks.
- Analytics and advertising conversion events: your consent, given in the cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time through the “Manage consent” link in the footer.
- Accounts, coupon submissions and contact form messages: performance of the service you asked for, and our legitimate interest in answering you.
You have the right to ask for access to the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy of information you gave us, and to withdraw consent. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office. To make a request, use the contact form. We hold no name against the click log, so to find your rows we will need your visitor id, which you can read from the visitor_uuid cookie in your browser’s cookie settings.
Your choices
- Cookie banner: if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the banner lets you accept, deny or choose categories. “Manage consent” in the footer reopens it.
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: the link in the footer opens our opt-out preferences page. Turn off Marketing there and we stop sending conversion events for your browser to the advertising platforms. The choice is kept in a cookie for one year; clearing your cookies clears the choice too.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of sharing and the advertising platforms are told that the click may not be used for advertising. You do not need to click anything. The click log row is still written; it is our own record and is not shared for advertising.
- Clearing your cookies gives you a new visitor id. Earlier rows are not linked to the new one.
- Google: you can manage ad personalisation at https://adssettings.google.com and install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
California and other US state privacy rights
In the last 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (visitor id, IP address, advertising click ids, account email), internet activity (pages viewed, coupons and stores clicked), commercial information (sale reports from affiliate networks tied to a click id) and the information you type into forms. We get it from you, from your browser, from the affiliate networks and from the advertising platforms. We use it for the purposes described above.
We share identifiers and click events with Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money and we do not collect sensitive personal information.
You have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. To opt out, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. For other requests, use the contact form. We will confirm your request by matching the visitor id you give us, and we answer within 45 days. An authorised agent may make a request for you if they can show your written permission.
Children
The site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
